Why do we label people as deviant when they break crimes?
- Distiguish betwn primary, secondary deviance
- primary: involves behavior of actor that caused him/her to be labelled as deviant
- secondary: behavior in reaction to being labelled a deviant
- Argues that people labelled as deviants driven to conform to peoples’ expectations
- limits person’s interpersonal relations, affects self conceptions, limits legitimate econ. opportunities
